An intrusion detection systems consists of a network of motion detectors and door/window sensors tied in to a control panel. If the system detects a breach, the control panel will either sound an audible alarm or alert the security company, building owner, or authorities-depending on the system configuration.
The control panel is accessible through an integrated touchpad or screen, where the system can be alarmed or disabled.
Intrusion detection systems can be hardwired or wireless. In a hardwired environment, the system communicates through the wiring tying all components and the control panel together. In a wireless system, components and the control panel communicate via radio frequency. The control panel communicates with outside contacts (security system, building owner, authorities) via WiFi, Bluetooth, or a cellular signal.
